Caribou Mother

This piece is inspired by the Caribou constellation, more commonly known as Ursa Major or the Big Dipper. I chose to include a white caribou calf and a motherly figure that represents the spirit of the caribou. The caribou provides meat, hides, as well as antlers and bones that have historically been used by Inuit peoples. The caribou gives of itself freely and supports all forms of life, such as the starry wolves that roam below. In this way, I consider the caribou to be a sustaining, nurturing, motherly type of being and wanted to honor its place in our world.
